TAHJA,
master choreographer, teacher and performer
extraordinaire of Middle Eastern Dance, has traveled the world with her
passionate and inspired dances, performing in such diverse places as
Morocco, Spain, England, Norway, Turkey, Egypt, the Canary Islands,
Central America, and throughout the U.S.
Having made over 320 performances in
the year 2000 alone, Tahja also teaches workshops globally and has
instructed over 1500 students since she began her teaching in 1977. Many
of her students have become world-class performers & instructors of the
dance themselves.
Tahja has the unique ability to
impart knowledge not only of the authentic movements and emotional context
of Middle Eastern dance, but also an understanding of the music and
culture from whence the dance comes, as she is also a gifted musician of
Middle Eastern music, playing the oud with her ensemble "Ya Salaam", and
directs a dance performance company by the same name.
Tahja was voted #1 Middle Eastern
dancer in the 1991 International Dance Champion Award Presentation, and
has produced numerous multi- cultural performances and an instructional
video. "The Tahja Technique of Middle Eastern Dance". A vocalist in over
15 different languages and producer of shows from not only the Middle
East, but also from Polynesia, Spain, and the Caribbean, Tahja is truly
an ambassador of world culture. She resides in Sarasota, Florida, where
she and senior members of her performing company continue to have ongoing
classes in the "Tahja Technique" of Middle-Eastern Dance.
